Young Motorcyclist’s Final Ride Ends in Tragedy on Virginia Beach Boulevard

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A devastating collision on Saturday, July 26, 2025, has claimed the life of a young motorcyclist in Virginia Beach. Nicholas Rizzotti, a 21-year-old resident of Chesapeake, succumbed to injuries sustained in a crash on the 3700 block of Virginia Beach Boulevard, according to the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD).
The incident occurred at approximately 12:23 p.m. when Rizzotti’s motorcycle collided with a passenger vehicle near the intersection of Virginia Beach Boulevard and Rosemont Road. First responders transported both Rizzotti and the driver of the vehicle to a local hospital. Rizzotti was in critical condition upon arrival but tragically passed away due to his injuries. The driver of the vehicle was treated for minor injuries and released.
Preliminary investigations by the VBPD indicate that Rizzotti was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed and failed to stop at a red traffic signal. The collision occurred as the other vehicle was turning eastbound onto Virginia Beach Boulevard. The impact led to the temporary closure of the boulevard between Rosemont Road and Lynn Shores Drive for accident reconstruction and cleanup. All lanes have since been reopened.
The Virginia Beach Police Department is actively investigating to determine all factors contributing to the crash. No charges have been announced as the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are encouraging anyone with information to contact the VBPD to assist in the investigation.
The loss of Nicholas Rizzotti has deeply affected his family and friends. His parents, Jennifer and Marc Rizzotti, shared their grief, recalling heartfelt moments with their son just a day before the tragedy. “He told me 100 times Friday how much he loved me and just kept calling me mama over and over again,” Jennifer said. Marc recounted the heart-wrenching call informing them of their son’s passing, a moment no parent is prepared to face. Rizzotti’s sister, Gabriella, expressed the profound void left by his death, saying, “Nicky — I love him so much, it’s never going to be the same.”
The crash has also impacted Rizzotti’s friends, many of whom are motorcyclists. His mother noted that they plan to hold “one last ride” in his honor before selling their bikes, with some choosing to stop riding altogether. Rizzotti’s helmet, a remnant of his final ride, remains a cherished keepsake for his family, who vow to hold onto their memories of him forever.
This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of high-speed travel and the critical importance of adhering to traffic signals, particularly at busy intersections. The VBPD urges all motorists, especially motorcyclists, to prioritize safety, reduce speed, and remain vigilant to prevent such heartbreaking losses.
A GoFundMe has been established to support the Rizzotti family during this difficult time.
