DETROIT, MI — A tragic shooting incident on Detroit’s west side has left three people dead in what authorities are investigating as a murder-suicide involving family members. The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at approximately 6:13 p.m. at a residence in the 20400 block of Pinehurst Street.

The Detroit Police Department’s 12th Precinct responded to a 911 call reporting two individuals shot, with the caller stating her son and grandson were among the victims. Upon arrival, officers discovered three victims, all pronounced dead at the scene due to gunshot wounds. The victims included two men in their late 40s and mid-50s, and the suspected shooter, a man in his late 20s, all of whom were related.

Captain Marcus Thirlkill of the Detroit Police Department indicated that the incident appears to stem from a family matter and is being treated as an isolated event. The motive remains under investigation, with no additional details released regarding the circumstances leading to the shooting.

The Detroit Police Department’s Homicide Task Force, in collaboration with Michigan State Police, is leading the investigation. Detectives and crime scene investigators are actively processing the scene to gather evidence and determine the sequence of events. Authorities have secured the area, and no suspects are being sought, as the shooter is believed to be among the deceased.
