An Oconee County man was arrested on two counts of attempted murder following a shooting incident that occurred on Sunday, July 27, 2025, near Seneca, South Carolina.

Zachary Aaron Hare Poole, 36, was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center on Monday, July 28, 2025, around 10:22 p.m. Poole was transported from AnMed Medical Center in downtown Anderson to the detention center after receiving medical attention. In addition to the attempted murder charges, Poole faces one count of possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent felony. Authorities have stated that, as a condition of his $510,000 surety bond, Poole will be required to wear an electronic monitoring device if released from jail.

Deputies from the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Uniform Patrol Division responded to a reported shooting on Return Church Road late Sunday afternoon. Upon arrival, they found an adult male who had sustained two gunshot wounds. Paramedics promptly transported the victim to a hospital for treatment.

According to the investigation, the incident stemmed from an argument between two adult males at the residence. Poole, identified as the shooter, allegedly fired multiple shots, striking the victim. One of the shots also hit a vehicle occupied by a separate adult female who was present on the property. Fortunately, the female was not injured by the gunfire. Poole fled the scene as a passenger in a vehicle driven by another woman before deputies arrived.

The investigation was handed over to the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Bureau, which secured arrest warrants for Poole. Due to the severity of the crime and concerns for personal safety and healthcare privacy, the names of the victims and the condition of the injured individual are not being disclosed.
