Mother of Three Fatally Shot on Springfield’s East Side, Leaving Family Devastated

The Springfield Police Department is investigating a tragic shooting that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, July 19, 2025, on the city’s southeast side, resulting in the death of a woman.

Officers responded to a report of gunfire in the 1900 block of Holly Drive at approximately 3:30 a.m. Upon arrival, they found a female victim who had sustained a gunshot wound. She was promptly transported to HSHS St. John’s Hospital via ambulance, where she was pronounced dead at 4:08 a.m. The Sangamon County Coroner, Jim Allmon, identified the victim as 36-year-old Rekeea “Tynese” Jackson-Mason of Chatham, a mother of three survived by her husband and children. An autopsy conducted on Sunday confirmed that Jackson-Mason died from injuries caused by the gunshot wound.

The family, mourning the profound loss, has requested privacy during this difficult time. Rekeea was known to be the sister of actor Rome Flynn, a detail that has drawn attention to the tragedy.

As of Monday, July 21, 2025, no arrests have been made, and the Springfield Police Department has not released information regarding a suspect or the motive behind the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing, with detectives and crime scene investigators actively processing evidence to uncover the circumstances of the incident.
