Minneapolis Police Investigating Deadly North Side Shooting in Early Morning Hours

Minneapolis, MN – July 4, 2025 — Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Friday morning in North Minneapolis, marking yet another tragic act of gun violence in the city.
According to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara, officers with the Fourth Precinct responded at approximately 2:35 a.m. to a ShotSpotter activation and multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired near the 2100 block of Dupont Avenue North.
When officers arrived at the scene, they located a man in his 20s suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. Officers immediately rendered aid until emergency medical personnel arrived. The victim was transported to North Memorial Health Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Preliminary reports indicate that the victim and another individual were riding electric scooters in the area when they suddenly heard gunfire. According to investigators, the victim collapsed shortly after being struck, while his companion quickly called 911 for help.
The Minneapolis Police Department’s Homicide Unit has launched a full-scale investigation into the shooting. At this time, authorities are working to determine whether the incident was targeted or random. No arrests have been made, and the suspect(s) remain at large.
“This tragic loss of life is something we, as a community, simply cannot accept,” said Chief O’Hara in a press release Friday morning. “Our investigators are working urgently to determine what happened and why. We are asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything — no matter how insignificant it may seem — to come forward.”
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office is working to officially identify the victim and will release his name, along with the cause and manner of death, in the coming days.
