MT. VERNON, IL – A devastating mass shooting in the early hours of Sunday, July 27, 2025, in the 600 block of South 15th Street has left the Mt. Vernon community in mourning. The Mt. Vernon Police Department responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 12:49 AM, discovering seven individuals shot. Two victims were pronounced deceased at the scene, while five others were transported to area hospitals for treatment of gunshot-related injuries.
