MEADVIEW, AZ — A quiet rural community was shaken by a tragic act of violence last week as 36-year-old Kodey Sean Wheeler, a resident of Meadview, was fatally stabbed during an altercation at a residence on North Driftwood Drive. Authorities have since identified Fred Dodge, 39, as the suspect in this disturbing case. He has been apprehended and charged with second-degree murder.

The Incident

On Thursday, July 3, 2025, deputies from the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a residence in the 26000 block of N. Driftwood Dr. in response to an aggravated assault report. According to the caller, a man had been stabbed, and the assailant had fled the scene.

When deputies arrived, they found Kodey Sean Wheeler suffering from multiple stab wounds. Medical personnel were immediately summoned, but sadly, Wheeler was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation & Suspect Arrest

The Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene and took over the case. Detectives learned that Fred Dodge and Wheeler had gotten into a physical altercation, which escalated to violence. During the confrontation, Dodge allegedly stabbed Wheeler multiple times before fleeing the area.

A manhunt for Dodge ensued. Working with cooperating agencies across state lines, investigators were able to locate Dodge at a motel in Nevada on Monday, July 7. He was taken into custody without incident.

In the meantime, he remains in Nevada custody, where he may also face additional charges stemming from the other ongoing homicide case.
