SHOOTING INVESTIGATION – SUSPECT CHRIS JONES WANTED

The Vicksburg Police Department is actively investigating a domestic-related shooting that occurred on the evening of Sunday, July 6, 2025, and is seeking the public’s help in locating the suspect, Chris Jones.

At approximately 7:58 PM, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Alcorn Drive in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, they learned that 20-year-old Tyrese Mitchell (name provided for narrative continuity) had suffered a gunshot wound and was being transported to Merit Health River Region in a private vehicle.

Officers followed the vehicle to the hospital, where Tyrese Mitchell received emergency care. He was later transferred to University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson for further evaluation. His current condition has not been released publicly as the investigation continues.

Suspect Identified as Chris Jones

Through preliminary investigation, authorities identified Chris Jones (DOB: 12/25/1990) as the primary suspect in the shooting. The incident stemmed from a domestic dispute involving family members, during which Jones allegedly shot Tyrese Mitchell and another relative, whose name has not yet been disclosed.

Following the shooting, Chris Jones fled the scene in a black Chevrolet Impala with black rims. The Vicksburg Police Department has issued active warrants for his arrest on charges of Aggravated Assault.

The Vicksburg Police Department urges residents to remain alert and contact authorities if they have any information regarding the whereabouts of Chris Jones. He is considered armed and dangerous, and the public is strongly advised not to approach him.
